Twin Peaks 2016: “I’ve got good news”

It’s been a wild couple of months for Twin Peaks fans and social media have been raging about the Twin Peaks reboot.

David Lynch is back with the project. And the news keeps on getting better. At the Crypticon event in Seattle Sherilyn Fenn (who plays Audrey Horne) revealed Twin Peaks season 3 would include eighteen episodes, double of the first announced nine episodes.

Angelo Badalamenti is composing brand new music and Twin Peaks Season 3 will be shot on location in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, including North Bend and Snoqualmie, WA.

One final revelation at Crypticon: Twede’s Cafe in North Bend, WA, will be restored as the original Double R Diner set.

Twin Peaks reboot first announced in October 2014

On October 3rd 2014 David Lynch and Mark Frost started off a Twin Peaks revival with a simultaneous post on their Twitter profile: “Dear Twitter Friends: That gum you like is going to come back in style! #damngoodcoffee”

As Twin Peaks fans know, when two separate events occur simultaneously pertaining to the same object of inquiry we must always pay strict attention. Both tweets were published at 11:30 AM, which is the exact time Dale Cooper enters the town of Twin Peaks.

Soon rumours were abound that a Twin Peaks reboot was in the works, which was later confirmed in a press release by Showtime, a subsidiary of CBS Corporation that promised to bring us Twin Peaks’ season 3, a limited series of nine episodes. David Lynch would direct all nine. The show was expected to hit TV screens in 2016.

Twin Peaks Season 3: “There are complications”

On April 5th 2015, David Lynch withdrew from the show, explaining that not enough money was offered to do the script the way he felt it needed to be done. He added:

“This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.”

Showtime later confirmed that Lynch had exited the reboot, but didn’t confirm whether the new Twin Peaks series would continue without him:

“We were saddened to read David Lynch’ statement today, since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. Showtime also loves the world of Twin Peaks, and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.”

Twin Peaks 2016: Is it happening again?

Weeks went by without any official statement neither from Showtime nor from David Lynch. Some members of the cast recorded a personal video message begging for Lynch to return.
Social media were buzzing with Twin Peaks’ fans asking Showtime to get David Lynch back on board. An online petition was signed by Twin Peaks fans from all over the world. A so-called Thunderclap was created, automatically posting the same message to the social media account of thousands of subscribers:

“Let David Lynch and Mark Frost brew damn good coffee for Twin Peaks together. Showtime, please #SaveTwinPeaks!”

On May 16th 2015 David Lynch finally posted a reassuring tweet:



Showtime president David Nevins confirmed the news in a statement. “This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever,” he said. “Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours.”
