New Twin Peaks TV show, Twin Peaks 2017

7 Ways Twin Peaks changed TV forever

1. Twin Peaks changed serialized television

Twin Peaks was the first show that was built around one central mystery. The show was at his best before Laura Palmer’s killer was revealed and the whole world was wondering who killed Laura Palmer.

Before Twin Peaks, individual episodes of TV series tended to have closed endings. Even cliffhangers usually got answered within an episode or two. TV makers didn’t spend much attention to a show’s cohesiveness over the course of a season. That all changed after Twin Peaks.

The X-Files, for example, got viewers hooked with the alien abduction conspiracy storyline, that started in the first episode and continued up to the final.

2. With Twin Peaks TV and cinema grew closer

Before Twin Peaks, the notion that a master filmmaker would work for television was unheard of. With Twin Peaks, David Lynch showed that TV could, under the right circumstances, be just as artistic and just as cinematic as cinema itself.

Twin Peaks is the reason cinematic visionaries like Steven Soderbergh are nowadays abandoning movies for television.

3. After Twin Peaks, it became okay for TV to be weird

That this really weird show was shown to a prime time public in 1990 feels like nothing short of a miracle in retrospect.

Cooper’s dream about the red room and the Twin Peaks finale, more than 25 years later they’re still one of the best, weirdest TV scenes to air on any network.

The dream sequences of The Sopranos. The puzzles of Lost. None of these would have been possible without Twin Peaks.

4. Twin Peaks was the first show where dreams were carrying the plot

In Twin Peaks dreams were meant to be interpreted. “Break the code. Solve the crime” as agent Cooper puts it.

In The Sopranos dreams were not only giving Tony clues. Just like in Twin Peaks, sometimes they were foretelling things that would happen to the main character later.

The most plot-heavy dream that Tony Soprano had was induced by food poisoning. In this dream Tony realized that his best friend ‘Big Pussy’ was an FBI informant and needed to be ‘taken care off’.

5. Twin Peaks made viewers ask “What the hell is going on?”

Many TV shows tried to copy this mystique, hoping that throwing questions at the audience would keep them watching. One show that particularly comes to mind is ‘Lost’.

The continual process of answering questions with more questions was a hallmark of J. J. Abrams’ Lost, just like it was for Twin Peaks. Both series might have scared away a viewer or two by piling up too much unanswered questions.

6. Twin Peaks was the first series to generate so many fan theories

Even without social media buzz Twin Peaks was a show that naturally lent itself to intricate theories. Viewers obsessed about the show and discussed it at family gatherings and by the watercooler at work.

7. With Twin Peaks, location became a character

Hitchcock’s Rear Window is probably one of the first movies where much of the viewers’ attention goes to location.

David Lynch transposed Hitchcock’s voyeuristic view into the neighbours’ secrets to a small town and the woodland scenery of the Pacific Northwest. Shows that would later copy that: Northern Exposure, Wayward Pines and Riverdale.

Where is the Twin Peaks TV show heading in 2017? – Clue No 4

Clue No 4: UFO’s over Twin Peaks in 1947?

This is probably the most surprising route the new Twin Peaks TV show might take. Little green men in our beloved town!

The book promo video that Mark Frost released in July 2016 shows two documents pertaining to sightings of flying saucers.

New Video – ‘The Secret History of Twin Peaks’

New Twin Peaks TV show: Clue No. 4

The first UFO document is an interview with Mr Kenneth Arnold conducted on July 12th, 1947. Mr Arnold claims that he saw 9 strange objects flying over the Cascade Mountain Range on June 25th, 1947. It’s the interviewer’s personal opinion that Mr Arnold actually saw what he states he saw. Mr Arnold is very outspoken and the interviewer doesn’t doubt his integrity.

The second document is a confidential report of UFO sightings. It’s unclear whether these come from Mr Arnold or other witnesses. The shape, colour, sound and trail of 18 UFO’s are reported into detail but sighting no 2, 4 and 7 have been blacked out due to reasons of ‘national security’.

Roswell incident related to UFO sightings near Twin Peaks?

The year 1947 rings a bell for any UFO enthusiast. On July 8, 1947, the Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) issued a press release stating that a “flying disc” had been recovered, after it had crashed on a ranch near Roswell. Following wide initial interest, the military stated that the crash was merely of a conventional weather balloon.

Until this day, the Roswell incident is the world’s “most famous and most thoroughly debunked UFO claim” or “biggest government cover up of a UFO crash”, depending on who you ask. Will the new Twin Peaks TV show go further in the Roswell incident’s story?

New Twin Peaks TV show: Project Blue Book

While flying saucers over Twin Peaks might sound ridiculous to some fans, there were peculiar UFO references in Twin Peaks Season 1 and 2. In one episode Major Briggs talks about Project Blue Book, the Air Force’s investigation into the phenomenon of unidentified flying objects, officially disbanded in 1969. Major Briggs continued to work on it in an unofficial capacity, examining the heavens as before.

Major Briggs adds though that, in the case of Twin Peaks, he examines the earth below. He is searching for a place called the White Lodge. Is the White Lodge somehow connected to the UFO sightings? And will there be further mention of the Roswell incident in the new Twin Peaks TV show?

Twin Peaks Season 3: The truth is out there

We believe it’s very doubtful that Twin Peaks Season 3 will show ‘Independence Day’-like flying saucers. On the other hand there might be the suggestion that the White Lodge, Native American mythology and UFO sightings are connected in some way.

This juxtaposition of Native American mythology and alien abduction mythology has happened before in television history. As a matter of fact, it takes place in more than one episode of ‘The X-Files’.

David Duchovny (seen for years as ‘Fox Mulder’, main character in ‘The X-Files’) played Denis Bryson, a cross-dressing DEA agent in Twin Peaks Season 2 and is said to return in Season 3. If Bryson switched from chasing drug dealers to UFO’s, fans of ‘The X-Files’ might be in for a real treat.

UFO references and David Duchovny, showing up in the new Twin Peaks TV show, will definitively exert attraction on the vast X-Files’ fan base.

’The Secret History Of Twin Peaks’ message [SPOILER ALERT]

“It is not something “out there” – in the president’s words. They may well once have been our neighbours from some distant star. But I believe they were here before us… I believe they have observed, helped, haunted, tormented and teased us since the beginning of time for reasons entirely their own.”

Where is the Twin Peaks TV show heading in 2017? – Clue No. 2

Clue No 2: An interoffice Memorandum from Gordon Cole to an unknown special agent

Both Showtime and the creators of the new Twin Peaks TV show have been scarce with information, until now. On July 27, 2016 Mark Frost shared via Twitter a new teaser video for his upcoming novel ‘The Secret History of Twin Peaks’.

Mark Frost’s new book is believed to be an entry point to Twin Peaks Season 3 and a must read for any true Twin Peaks fan. The newly released video contains clues for Twin Peaks fans taking the effort of reading the shown documents.

New Video – ‘The Secret History of Twin Peaks’

Mark Frost’s ‘The Secret History of Twin Peaks’ is promoted as the story millions of fans have been waiting for more than 25 years. The upcoming book will tell about the findings of a female FBI Agent T. P. who is asked to investigate a box that holds documents on the strange town of Twin Peaks.

Mark Frost’s book promo video has fans around the world contemplating on what the shown documents are telling us about where the new Twin Peaks TV show is heading.

Twin Peaks Season 3: Clue No. 2

The retrieved box is accompanied by an interoffice memorandum from Gordon Cole. The letter says all material in the box is confident and for FBI agent T.P.’s eyes only. Classified three levels above top secret.

The dossier was recovered on July 17, 2016 at a crime scene that is still under active investigation. Gordon Cole wants to find the person or persons responsible for compiling the dossier.

The content of the dossier seems to have some relationship to an investigation conducted by Special Agent Dale Cooper, who worked under Gordon Cole’s command at that time.

The 1989 murder case of a young woman named Laura Palmer is considered closed but certain aspects of it may be relevant to analysing the content of this newly found dossier. That’s why special agent T.P. is also granted access to Agent Cooper’s files and tapes.

New female FBI agent protagonist of new Twin Peaks TV show?

Dale Cooper seems to be no longer working for Gordon Cole. Has Cooper quit the FBI? Or has Cooper just changed supervisor?

It looks like, in Twin Peaks Season 3, the new female FBI agent might be leading the investigation. The memorandum’s P.S. certainly hints on more to do for agent T.P. once she finishes examination of the box’ content.

If the new Twin Peaks TV show is going to be a whodunit, the person leading the investigation will be the protagonist. Chances are that will be agent T.P., not agent Dale Cooper.

This leaves us with one important question…

Who will play this new, female FBI agent in the new Twin Peaks TV show?

As the protagonist will largely determine the viewer’s perspective, personally I’d like to see some kind of female version of Agent Cooper. Showing the same quirkiness and unorthodox methods.

As I come to think of it, Gordon Cole might want someone with the same openness of mind and modus operandi to lead the new investigation.

Where is the Twin Peaks TV show heading in 2017?

Clue No 1: A post package from Gordon Cole to T______ P_____

So far we didn’t know much about the plot of Twin Peaks Season 3. That all changed yesterday when Mark Frost tweeted a new teaser video for his upcoming novel ‘The Secret History of Twin Peaks’, that will prepare us for the new Twin Peaks TV show.

The freshly released video offers numerous of clues to Twin Peaks fans who are willing to take the effort of pausing the video and read the shown documents. Time travel or multiple time dimensions seems to be one aspect of the new Twin Peaks TV show suggested in this video.

New Video – ‘The Secret History of Twin Peaks’

Twenty-five years after the murder of Laura Palmer, the FBI gets a hold of a box. In the box, they find a huge dossier on the town of Twin Peaks.

A female FBI agent is tasked to analyse all the documents inside. She also has to determine the identity of the person who compiled the dossier.

All material from this dossier will be presented in the Novel ‘The Secret History of Twin Peaks’ to be released by Mark Frost on October 18, 2016.

Twin Peaks Season 3: Clue No 1

The video shows the box is sent by Gordon Cole, agent Cooper’s supervisor who still operates from Philadelphia. The receiver’s address has been partly blacked out. The box is adressed to a T______ P_____ in Twin Peaks. Could that last name be ‘Palmer’?

Keeps us guessing, doesn’t it? A family member of Laura Palmer that joined the FBI? Another cousin?

Funny detail: the ZIP code WA 98065 is that of the city of Snoqualmie, where most outdoor scenes of the Twin Peaks TV show were shot.

Time travel in new Twin Peaks TV show?

Remarkably the post package is dated August 3, 2016 while the video was released July 27, 2016. Did something or someone press Mark Frost into releasing the new video a little earlier than the planned date?

Or is the post package deliberately dated in the future as a reference to time traveling? The theme of time travel came up in both the Twin Peaks TV show and the movie ‘Fire Walk With Me’.

Twin Peaks Reboot: information was scarce, until now

The Twin Peaks reboot was first announced by a simultaneous tweet coming from the creators David Lynch and Mark Frost on October 3, 2014.

Since then, curious Twin Peaks fans didn’t get much to go on. Up to now, two promo videos have been released: A very short one showing the dancing dwarf and a longer one based on an interview with Michael Horse, who plays deputy Hawk.

We also got the official 217-members cast list, which had some surprises in store but didn’t tell you much about storylines to expect from Twin Peaks Season 3.

Mark Frost’s upcoming book ‘The Secret History of Twin Peaks’, however, introduces brand new elements to Twin Peaks fans. The new video sure delivered what Twin Peaks fans have been waiting for.

The new video makes me think this new Twin Peaks TV show is actually going to be really good. In our next blog post we will be exploring more of the material shown in ‘The Secret History of Twin Peaks’ video!
